MEET SOCHEAT…

Last year I chose Hearts Without Boundaries as my February charity and met Socheat, a 3 year-old little girl who would be the next recipient of heart surgery. She was extremely small, frail and lacked the energy a typical 3 year-old should have. Her surgery was a success and came back to visit in May. The difference was unbelievable! She was running around the store, eating a sucker, laughing, playing games and full of energy that she had lacked only months earlier. She is a good reminder that giving back, no matter the size, can make a huge difference.

Hearts Without Boundaries is a non-profit organization based in Long Beach that provides medical services globally to those in need. In 2008, they sponsored two life-saving surgeries for a 9 year-old girl, Davik, and an 11 month-old boy, Lucky. Both now live normal, healthy lives back in their remote villages in Cambodia. When Socheat first came to visit I was fortunate to meet Davik as well. She was here for a follow-up visit. I feel so lucky to have been able to see the face of such a great organization.
